Okay Okay – It’s been a looong time since the Rat held this Boston Rock institution and if you can remember that far back congratulations for making it this far.  I still have a copy of The Neighborhoods 45  No Place Like Home / Prettiest Girl.    Why bring that up?  The Neighborhoods won the Third ( my first in attendance)  Rock and Roll Rumble – David Minehan and company blistered through their sets and delivered timeless pop punk nuggets forever branded into my cranium.

Thank you to ZLX for keep this alive – we still have a couple of weeks to go before the Sunday night kick-off – I’m dripping nostalgia all over my keyboard in anticipation…Who are some of your past Rumble winners and who is taking the crown this year?

Returning for its 34th edition, Boston’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble will kick off next month with 24 bands participating. Organized by Anngelle Wood of WZLX’s Boston Emissions, the legendary battle of the bands will kick off on Sunday, April 7 and continue over the course of three weeks at TT the Bear’s Place in Cambridge.

Never limited to the boundaries of Boston, the Rumble celebrates the scenes and styles that comprise the New England music community. This year’s Rumble crop features an exciting assortment of the region’s offerings with the following bands set to participate: Blackbutton, Camden, Cancer Killing Gemini, Coyote Kolb, The Daily Pravda, The Deep North, Eddie Japan, Endation, The Field Effect, Glenn Yoder and the Western States, Herra Terra, Jack Burton vs. David Lo Pan, Lifestyle, Mount Peru, New Highway Hymnal, The Okay Win, Parks, Ruby Rose Fox, The Suicide Dolls, Supermachine, Twin Berlin, Velah, Whitcomb and White Dynomite.

Each of the preliminaries will feature four bands with the first round running from Sunday, April 7 to Saturday, April 13. The Rumble will take its traditional “day of rest” on Wednesday, April 10. The winners from each night, along with a pair of Wild Card selections, will move on to the semi-final round on Thursday, April 18 and Friday, April 19. The finals will take place on Friday, April 26.

Local music fans who plan on attending every night will want to buy the all-inclusive pass for $70, which is now on sale through TicketWeb. Information on single night tickets will be announced soon.

Now in its 34th year, the competition is the longest running battle of the bands in the country. Beyond serving as the city’s premier battle of the bands, the Rumble has been considered by many as a springtime music festival celebrating the local music scene. With no application process, bands are invited to perform at the Rumble and may only appear once. All bands are paid for their appearance with additional prizes and payment if they go on to the semifinals and finals rounds.

Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck took home the crown at the last year’s Rumble over Garvey J. and Motherboar. Previous champions include: John Powhida International Airport (2011), The Luxury (2009), Girls, Guns & Glory (2008), Township (2007), The Campaign For Real Time (2006), Reverend Glasseye (2005), Jake Brennan & the Confidence Men (2004), The Dresden Dolls (2003), The Gentlemen (2002), Bleu (2001), Darkbuster (2000) and The Sheila Divine (1999).
